A finish - Ruthy Rogers

Ruthy came back from the framers today. Now to decide where to hang her.

She was a fun project. I made some changes here and there, the most noticable being the strawberries which I satin stitched.

We are having some lovely weather at Poldhu Cove.

Although this photo was taken from the next cove along.

The grass is growing and the flowers are blooming.

I just love this time of year and love is certainly in the air.

I started Elizabeth Cox today and hope to post as soon as I have a little bit to show.

Enjoy the summer.

A walk in June

I have just put the last of the stem stitches into Ruthy. There were an awful lot of them to stitch. Now to the border and then the dedication.

The weather has been glorious here and we have been enjoying being outside and have taken lots of walks. These days we have to go at Poppy's pace which has slowed considerably and let her have rest stops.

Here she is with Ray.

As we walk the coast paths we can see evidence of erosion from the winter's storms.

The life guard station suffered badly this winter and is unable to open.

A long steep walk up the other side of Polurrian Cove and time for a rest at a perfectly placed bench to admire the view.

The climb is not over yet.

You can just make out our Cove in the far distance. We have already covered quite a distance.

There is so much colour to be seen.

Time for another rest stop and to enjoy the view of the island.

Time to turn inland towards the village.

The newly sheared llamas watch us pass.

Such an English sight - cricketers warming up for a match.

A short cut through the church yard.

Then along Meres Valley passing one of our favourite gardens.

Valerian is everywhere even though it is considered a weed by some.

A spinney offers us a brief spell of shade.

You have to be agile to get back out the other end.

Across a newly mown field.

There is so much greenery around

and the hedgerows are alive. We found lots of caterpillar balls.

Our cove was a welcome sight.

and then into our garden and home.

“By seeking and blundering we learn.”

Well I have blundered with this and the lesson learnt is always check and double check before you stitch.

I managed to hem stitch the edge back to front and now if I unpick it it will fray on the corners.

Ruthy Rogers was put down whilst I worked on this tray cloth and the doily below

but this weekend she was back on the frame and Ruthy now has an upper body and is high fiving us.

I did make a few alterations to her bodice and the positioning of the flowers she is holding. I also changed the flowers in her hand and hair to ones stitched with little bullions.

I have been looking for a quotation/saying for her and may use "All things are possible if only you believe". At the start Ruthy was very much out of my comfort zone  but now I feel very comfortable with stem stitch.

I hope everyone is enjoying the holiday weekend, in the UK the weather has been mixed but we have managed to get in three great walks with Poppy and Blue.

Back from the framers

Ellenor Wykcs and EK 1653 (now known as Three Sisters) are back from the framers.

Ruthy Rogers is progressing and I am loving stem stitch. It is so fluid.

I was definitely out of my comfort zone to start with but this stitch is well worth having a go at.

It stitches up very quickly.

My other start is a hardanger place mat for my WI group.

The inner sections are not finished but I wanted to try the buttonhole edging. It is a padded one which I had not heard of before. You stitch satin blocks then work the buttonhole stitch over them. It does create a nice effect. Hopefully, if all goes to plan this will be very pretty.

The challenge is to have the back looking as good as the front.

The postman has been with a new spool caddy. I cannot resist collecting them. Richard Hyers makes such beautiful stitching accessories.  His website is well worth a visit.

Archie continues to grow and he is now very mobile on his own two feet. Chris and Kate have been having some decoration done to the house and he is fascinated with paintbrushes. The decorator gave him one and at the moment it is going every where with him !!

I hope that all my American followers have enjoyed their Mothering Sunday today.

Two finishes and a new start

My needles have been flying and I have finished EK 1653 and Ellenor Wykcs both by The Scarlet Letter and stitched on Floba 35/6ct with AVAS.

Ellenor was such a pretty sampler to work on.

EK 1653 has quite a few similarities to Ellenor and I found that switching back and forth between the two worked quite well.

I adapted my EK from the original by inserting the lines of a favourite poem that means a great deal to me and my sisters.

My new start is Ruthy Rogers also by The Scarlet Letter

Ruthy is quite a different sampler for me and I am out of my comfort zone.

After seeing Barbara's stitched Ruthy I just had to have a go at stitching her.

Didn't Barbara do an amazing job on hers?

I will post again when Ellenor and EK are back from the framers with detailed photos.
