| Ann Medd - Day 43 |
I am now stitching the section that I have been most looking forward to doing.
| Ann Medd - Day 43 |
It was meant to be stitched mostly in tent but after working a section I decided that I did not like the effect it created and ripped it out and started again in cross stitch. I know that it is a lot more work but I think that it is worth it.
I have taken another two liberties with the design. This section was slightly off centre so I have extended the left hand side (as you look at it) by several threads and edged the section in the darker blue all the way around. It was charted for the top and right border and about a quarter of the left border only and this looked odd to me.
There are approximately 25,000 full cross stitches in this section.
I have been drawn to this section because of the beautiful turquoises and the fluidity of the shapes, It reminds me of the stainglass windows in my hall and landing.
I designed these windows in 2003 when we first bought the house. My design was based on the colours and movement of the sea.
I think that when finished Ann Medd will look good hung near these windows in the gap between paintings.
I am very conscious that I have not blogged lately. I am very sorry but life has been very hectic lately for various reasons. I want my blog to be positive so I won't go into all the ins and outs, however I do want to share with you a special family occasion that took place this weekend back in Wales.
My parents celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary. It was a truly happy occasion.
Congratulations Mummy and Daddy you are a very special couple and the bestiest parents we three girls could have.
We have the W.I. Spring Show on Saturday and I am going to enter some of my work. I can only enter one piece in the cross stitch section and am stuck on which piece.
HELP - would you enter Dutch Beauty (stitched on 32ct) or And They Sinned (stitched on 28ct) ?

Congratulations to your parents.
You are making such great progress on
Ann. The section you are working on now is stunning as are those beautiful stained glass windows in your home.
What a dilemma on which piece to enter into the WI show.
I think ATS although both are worthy of a first place!
Margaret
Great progress on Ann Medd, definitely a must do!!
I would enter And they sinned,it's stunning
Congrats to your parents...what a lovely family. It is so impressive to see everyone in the photo, I know you will cherish it.
Now that stitchery is out of this world awesome. The patience you have is even more amazing.
Congratulations to your parents. And what a beautiful family!
I like the changes you made on Ann, I'm just getting to a point where I feel comfortable changing a pattern.
Oh my, the stained glass is amazing. Love the color and pattern it adds to the landing/stairwell.
Happy anniversary to your parents! What a beautiful family picture -- love it! Love your Ann Medd too. Those windows really do reflect the design on Ann Medd. I think Ann would look wonderful right where you're thinking of putting her! As for the show -- oh gosh, I'm not sure which is better to enter. They're both spectacular pieces! Wow. So hard to choose for sure. Let us know what you decide.
Happy Annjiversary to your mom and dad :) HOW VERY SWEET!!!
Your stitching is just SO gorgeous!
Have a greatweek!
((hugs))
The stained glass windows are beautiful! You did a great job of designing them, and I think Ann Medd will perfect with them.
Congratulations to your parents! Lovely family picture, too.
Happy Anniversary to your parents! They look wonderful & very much in love : ) Both samplers are gorgeous but I think I would enter As They Sinned in the competition. It's just my personal favorite : )
Congrats to your parents! What a wonderful family picture. Ann will look wonderful next to those fabulous windows.
First of all let me just say what a beautiful couple your parents are! How fortunate you are to be able to celebrate this wonderful miles stone with them.
Ann is going to look just perfect in that spot next to those gorgeous windows! Good luck at the Show on Saturday. Both pieces are stunning! You can make no wrong decision. However, I think I'd enter Dutch Beauty.
Can't wait to hear how it goes.
Linda
Lovely progress on Ann Medd - you're stitching her so quickly. And huge congratulations to your parents for their Golden Wedding Anniversary - what a lovely family.
What amazing progress you have made on Ann! You are a very fast stitcher. I have Ann Medd in my stash. I started it, and don't wuite remember why I didn't contiue. It was someting about the floss or the linen I didn't like. Can't remember now. I think you have found the perfect spot for her near those beautiful windows!
Oh Nicola congratulations to your parents. What an accomplishment! Precious family picture also. I love your stained glass windows. It creates such beautiful light there. It seems to be a perfect place to hang Ann. I would enter Dutch Beauty. :)
Congrats to your parents! A feat not many accomplish these days.
What a beautiful window feature you have too. I can see why you are drawn to the section your stitching right now. Spectacular work by the way. XD
Wonderful family picture.
From all needlework exhibits I've been to and seeing what pieces seem to get the most attention, I think Dutch Beauty would be the one to enter. Just my opinion of course.
Good luck on whatever piece you choose,
Pam
Congratulations to your parents!! The window you designed is beautiful. I love the color that reflects on the walls.
And what can I saw about Ann. You are making such wonderful progress on this piece and you're doing the same thing I did - full crosses in that bottom section for me - I didn't like the tent stitch either. It is a little bit extra work, but I think it looks better than the tent stitches!
Hi Nicola, What wonderful progress on Ann Medd! I can see why you love the bottom section.. the blues are just gorgeous. It reminds me of my trip to Cancun Mexico! :) It will look beautiful in the spot you picked out, the stained glass windows are so lovely, thank you for a peek into your beautiful home.
What a great celebration you had with your parents, 50 years! My grandparents had been married for 64 years. It is amazing to see love last a lifetime like that. You have a very big family, it looks like you had a wonderful time getting together for the celebration. Thank you for sharing all of your lovely pics. :)
Have a great week! oh, and for the entry both are so stunning, it is hard to choose, but I think ATS.
Krista
The family photo is lovely and a wonderful keepsack of the happy occasion of your parent's golden anniversary.
Ann Medd and the stained glass windows are both gorgeous. I'm glad you decided to go with the full cross stitch... it looks wonderful and I'm sure you'll be much happier with the end result.
You can't go wrong with entering either sampler in the show. Best of luck.
Congrats to you and your parents and your family - what a special celebration - ATS is an amazing piece - I can't imagine stitching the section with 25,000 much less the entire thing - wow!
Ann is beautiful! Love the blues.
What a lovely home you have and I think that Ann will look wonderful hung by the windows.
Happy Anniversary to your parents! Beautiful family picture too!
A difficult choice between Dutch Beauty and ATS. I think I would enter Dutch Beauty.
Congratulations to your parents!
Ann will luck stunning in the place you've chosen for her.
It's a difficult choice out of the two i would choose to enter Dutch Beauty - good luck which ever one you choose, they are both beautiful :-)
i am still amazed at your work. and those windows! you are a multi-talented artist. congratulations to your wonderful parents!
I think the "and they sinned" is stunning! Love your stained glass window design..you are clever!
Congratulations to your parents, It was our 45th this last Sunday, oh where did those years go.!
Your Ann Medd is looking beautiful, It will look stunning in your hallway, lovely blue windows.
Have a good week.
Congratulations to your mom and dad! That is such a lovely family photograph. Ann is looking amazing! You're right - the spot near those gorgeous stained glass windows :)
I love both designs, but must admit to being partial to ATS - good luck!
Many congratulations to your parents - how wonderful!
I think that you would win with either piece of work, both are fabulous. Lots of Luck on Saturday!
Many congratulations to your parents. Looks like a good time was had by all. You have a real dilemma there with the decision. I love them both but I think that Dutch Beauty is perhaps my favourite.
Ann looks so beautiful and I think you have the perfect place to hang her when she's all done!
Very nice picture of your parents and family! Treasure all these wonderful moments. Life is so short...
Nicola, your Ann Medd simply takes my breath away - it's stunning! Even in your previous post the turquoises caught my eye and brought to mind the waters around Key West. There couldn't possibly be a better spot in your home than so close to your seascape windows.
My 2 cents on which piece to enter - go with Dutch Beauty. The motifs on it are a bit more refined and it's worked on a slightly higher thread count, which will emphasize this even more.
What a beautiful family! Your parents celebration looked like a very joyous occasion.
Your family photo is beautiful--something you will treasure more and more in the coming years.
Both Dutch Beauty and ATS are awesome--you won't go wrong with either one!
Good changes on Ann Medd.
Hope everything is okay. Like you, I made the decision to not discuss negative things on my blog (everyone has negative, no one needs mine). Your blog friends near and far are thinking positive thoughts for you.
Congratulations to your parents on their 60th anniversary. They look like a very happy couple and it your family photo looks lovely.
Great progress on Ann Medd. I think that you have found the perfect spot for her. She will look stunning there and I really love your stained glass window. It is truly beautiful.
I would also pick Dutch Beauty for your show. It is such a lovely sampler.
Congratulations to your parents! What a great family photo too. It must've been a great celebration.
Your Ann Medd is awesome!
Good luck on your WI Spring Show!
Happy 50 to your parents!
Ann Medd looks fantastic! I can see how you're really attracted to the part you are stitching now. It's beautiful. Your stained glass windows by your stairwell are stunning!
I can't believe how quickly you're progressing on Ann Medd, she's coming along beautifully.
Congratulations to Mum and Dad on 50 years together!
Congratulations to your Mum and Dad on their anniversary!
Your stained glass is gorgeous and the sampler will fit perfectly there.
Good luck with the WI show. I think either piece would be perfect, but if I was forced to choose just one I think I'd go with Dutch Beauty
Ann Medd is looking so great. That is my favorite part of the chart as well. Watching you stitch this is moving this chart higher and higher up my wish list. Oh no!
What a great celebration for your parents.
I think I wouldn't be able to choose which piece to enter, both are too nice. I am no help. :P
Oh yes, Ann will be a perfect compliment to the lovely stained glass windows. Congrats to the "special couple"...how nice to be able to celebrate a milestone.
Ann is absolutely beautiful.
Congratulations to your parents. Those photos are definitely ones to cherish.
The window you designed is stunning.
Hmm difficult choice between ATS and Dutch Beauty! Whichever you decide on- good luck :)
Your stained glass windows are stunning and Ann will look wonderful hung in that space by the windows.
She's looking great and I like the changes you've made.
Congrats to your parents on their anniversary. I'm glad they were able to share their day with all the family.
I think I would enter And They Sinned but ultimately the choice is yours. Good luck!
I just love the way the light plays on the walls in your home, Nicola--oh, to live by the sea :) And you're right, that section of Ann Medd perfectly mimics your beautiful windows...
Congratulations to your dear parents--just look at all the wonderful smiling faces their union has produced :)
As for a choice...hmmm...I guess I would enter Dutch Beauty. Best of luck to you in the spring show!
The spot you've picked for Ann when she's finished is perfect! I love the windows, it must give you such shades of light coming in. Wonderful progress on Ann.
Congratulations to your parents, what a wonderful milestone to reach and what a wonderful occasion it must have been to all be together.
Dutch Beauty or ATS? I say Dutch Beauty!
Congratulations to your parents celebrating their golden wedding anniversary - such a milestone.
Tough decision for you to make but I think Dutch Beauty although they are equally magnificent.
Happy anniversary to your parents!!!! They look so sweet :-). Ann is gorgeous and I love the spot you've picked out for her. The windows are wonderful.
My personal choice would be And They Sinned but both are gorgeous. I know nothing about judging and shows and while I would have thought a higher count would earn bonus points I've heard people saying things stitched on aida have beaten them because the judges liked the design more.
Congrats to your parents on their milestone Anniversary.
Oh I love the blues and turquoise both in the stitching and on your stain glass windows. I think it will look perfect hanging in the spot you've designated for it.
Congratulations to your parents! Wow... Golden Anniversary. Definitely an occasion for celebration.
Hugs,
Veronica.
Many congratulations to your parents. Ann looks gorgeous, the colours are lovely, and a perfect compliment to your window - a great place to display your stitching.
Every time I see pictures of your home I'm positively jealous! Those windows are just spectacular!
What a big happy family!!!
Thanks for posting a close up of your gorgeous stain glass windows! They are so pretty and make me all dreamy!! Gorgeous progress on Ann Medd. I would enter her!! Happy Anniversary to your parents! How amazing that they are still together and so happy!! What a lovely family!!
A bit too late, but anyway, congratulations to your parents! So many years together!
Your progress on Ann is great - and I loved the picture of your stained glass windows...
congrats to your parents and stunning stitching :D
Thank you for your lovely pictures, I come to your page, and it really chears me up, beautiful part of the country, and lovely stitching :)
